Be happy & smile!

On this page you will find out why you need braces, what types are available and how braces work.

But in advance: You also decide how successful your treatment is. First, without regular wearing even the best brace will no longer have an effect. Secondly, cleanliness and hygiene is important. And thirdly, you will have regular appointments with us. But it is worth it. We promise that your teeth will look great! And you also get healthier, because incorrectly positioned teeth can harm the whole body.

If you want to have beautiful, healthy teeth without wire and brackets, we would recommend you transparent rails (invisible braces aligners or tooth rails from our own production).

Why should you get a treatment?

Orthodontics are correcting the position of the teeth and also the jaw, so that biting works properly and cleaning becomes way easier. Nice side effect: your smile will also look much better!

Maybe now you say: "I can already bite well!" Sure, you can also bite with crooked teeth. But problems such as cracking or pain in the temporomandibular joint arise in the long run. Sometimes the teeth don't come together. Then the food will not grind properly and the digestion can deteriorate. Individual teeth are lost faster, because they are chewed with incorrectly or cannot be cleaned well.

If the lips cannot be closed properly, breathing occurs through the mouth. The consequences are speech disorders and you get sick more often (cold and throat diseases).

Only the teeth that stand properly prevent overloading of teeth, jaw joint diseases, speech errors and other problems.

step by step

From the first visit to the end of the successful treatment: Here you will learn everything about the process.

Examination of the teeth at the first visit

First visit

On your first visit we will take a close look at your teeth and pine. As a result, we will recognize whether you need a clip. We also see how well you brushed your teeth in the past and can explain the right brushing on a model, so you can improve that in the future.

We take a close look at your teeth and make the records

The start date

If you need a clip, we will finish the documents for your treatment plan:

  • 1. Photos - normal with a photo camera
  • 2. X -ray images - two pieces; From your bones and your teeth inside the bone
  • 3. Dresses - we need them to be able to produce your teeth as a plaster model. This is planned and your bracket is also being built.

Meeting date

Now it is discussed which malposition your teeth have and how they could be treated. You will find out which bracelet you get first and which will follow. Of course you can ask us all the questions you have in mind, we will be happy to answer them all.

Receiving the first loose bracket

Start of treatment

On this date you either get your loose bracelet, or the preparation for a fixed bracelet begins. The fixed bracelet comes into the mouth, the earliest on the second appointment, usually at the fourth appointment. All important things you should know and want to know will be explained to you.

Dental check for fixed brackets

Thereafter

Now we will start to move your teeth and adapt your jaws together. You will get appointments more often for re -enacting and also for toothbrush control. Please try to keep these appointments regularly, so that your treatment works quickly and well.

If you have made it, through good cooperation and with our help that your teeth are standing together as desired, we will stop moving and only keep the final result. You will get a loose bracelet for that. We strongly recommend that you also glue an invisible wire behind the front teeth.

Final check of the last loose clamp

End of treatment

If the year is over with the last loose bracelet, we will officially end your treatment. However, we recommend that you still wear the loose brackets at regular intervals (e.g. at night) so that nothing can regress!

Technology

How does that actually work?

There are several technical options for brackets. Here you will find the most important details.

Removable braces

Removable bracket

There are “active plates“ that sit individually in the upper jaw and lower jaw. The panels are made of plastic and wire and are made in our dental laboratory.

They are built in a way that they cling to the teeth - hence the name - and can be used and removed by yourself. This makes your teeth slightly adjusted, gaps reduced or enlarged and much more. With a little practice, talking with these plates is not difficult.

The “activator” is the second possible bracket. It consists of a bracket for the top and bottom, so it is a larger clip block. It clings to the upper teeth, holds on to them and meanwhile the lower jaw is nevertheless freely movable. This bracket can only work if the lower jaw bites into the bracket properly.

At the beginning it is a strange feeling, but you get used to it very quickly and train your chewing muscles. This will change your bite so that the whole lower jaw is adjusted. Your speech is even stranger with this bracket than with the other brackets, but here you will also be easy to understand with practice.

Basically, so that these brackets can do their work, you will have to wear them a lot! It is difficult at school, but if you learn to speak well, no teacher will say anything about it. The best time to wear it, is at night, because you sleep and won't notice it very much.

If the bracket is not in your mouth, you should put it in a clip can - otherwise it will be broken or gone faster than you can imagine!

If you have problems with the bracket - pain, something is broken - please contact us, we will help you! Here you will find information about the loose bracket again.

Checking the brackets of a patient

Fixed bracket (Multibracket)

As the name reveals: this bracket sits firmly in your mouth. It consists of small metal clips, the so -called brackets, which are glued to the individual teeth with a special glue. Metal rings, called ligaments, come around your molars, which are attached with a special cement.

A wire arch is then inserted into a slit on these brackets that runs across all your teeth. Because we tie your teeth on this bow, the teeth can adjust in the desired direction. The wire arch will sometimes be replaced, and every new wire arch then has its special task.

Since the teeth are supposed to move, you will have pressure on your teeth at the beginning - but without pressure you will not get your desk postponed! The pressure on the teeth decreases significantly in the first few days.

With the solid bracket, cleaning will be more difficult, but also way more important than before. Therefore, you should brush your teeth after each meal and look thoroughly whether nothing is hidden behind the wire. We explain everything to you beforehand and tell you all the tips and tricks so that you are prepared.

There are also things that you have to take in and out of the firm dental clamp, named the elastic bands or the facial arch. Your cooperation also influences the duration of the treatment and the success! If you have any problems, please contact us so that you can be helped quickly.

You can also find information on the fixed bracket and the elastic regulations in the dictionary.

Patient holds a transparent Aligner in her hands

Aligner

Aligners are transparent rails with which we can remove certain misalignments. If possible, you should only remove your Aligner for eating so that your teeth can be quickly pushed to the desired area. The advantages of the aligners for you are obvious:

  • They are almost invisible
  • They are removable
  • They are simple to clean and will make oral hygiene way easier
  • There won't be descaling
  • They won't make scours
  • They will quickly lead to improvements

We use the Invisalign method for more extensive aligner treatments.

Stabilization of results

The time of the active movement of your teeth is over. Your solid tooth bracket has been removed - now the stabilization of your success begins. To do this, you get a loose dental clip (retention plate) for the upper and lower jaw. Why do you need them?

By moving the teeth, they usually sit a little more loosely in the jaw and are more likely to adjust again, usually for the worse. The bracket ensures that the teeth do not regress again, but remain in the right position.

In addition, we recommend that you glue a small wire behind the front teeth, which you cannot see from the outside. This wire is called "Retainer". It ensures that the incisors in particular cannot turn again or that gaps arise there. This is how your beautiful smile is secured. This retainer should always stay in your mouth as long as it doesn't bother you.
